Participant Spotlight

My name is Jade and I am honored to be sharing my story with you.  Many of the women who I work with at The Enterprising Kitchen have come from a broken home.  I was told early on that I wouldn’t amount to anything.  With only the life skills I learned from the street and with little self-esteem, it wasn’t long before I ended up with a criminal record. I was missing an anchor.

But I don’t look at myself as a victim but a victor.  The ability to work wasn’t hard for me.  Finding a job to support myself was.  I began looking for a door to open that would give me a chance to prove myself, grow and move on. But doors kept closing in my face. That was until I was introduced to The Enterprising Kitchen.  I knew right away that I would be a good fit for this program because I would be part of an organization that worked hard to benefit, better, and uplift people.

Excited and anxious for my interview at The Enterprising Kitchen, I went online to find out as much as I could before the interview. But nothing prepared me for what touched my heart that day I met the Director of Operations, Fey Cruz.  She told me, “Who am I to judge your past?  What happened in the past does not make you who you are today.”  Out of all my previous interviews I never heard anyone show that level of understanding and interest in who I was as an individual.

I am thankful The Enterprising Kitchen hired me. I have gained such valuable experience.  Not only am I thriving in this positive  working environment, I am also learning new skills for my next job.  Working at the front desk, I am helping with marketing, customer service and inside sales.  In the production facility, I am learning how to inventory and make our products.   I find myself poised and positioned to explore new challenges and opportunities.

Through The Enterprising Kitchen, I have realized that when you help someone, you give them the opportunity to better themselves.  Helping…maximizes our individual potential.  Helping… helps women like me move towards permanent employment.  I am proud to say I am now living life on my terms.  I am independent and living on my own.  Thanks to The Enterprising Kitchen, I’ve gained the satisfaction that only you get through positive change.

UPDATE:  Jade finds permanent employment!  Upon entering the program, Jade exuded charisma.  Her dream was to pursue a career in marketing.  We are proud to report that she was hired full-time in the marketing and public relations industry.  She even flew to New York on her first day!  Thanks to the support of many, Jade is on her chosen career path and looking forward to a brighter future.
